A man fatally shot himself after opening fire at an Evergreen shopping center on Thursday night, sparking a large police response and closing roads in the area.
People at the shopping center in the 32314 Ellingwood Trail started calling 911 at 5 p.m. after hearing gunshots, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Karlyn Tilley said.
Law enforcement found shattered glass and evidence that someone had shot inside the shopping center, but exactly where the shooting happened and whether the person was inside or outside is still under investigation, Tilley said.
There were no victims found at the scene and investigators are working to identify the shooter, Tilley said.
Westbound Colorado 74 is closed between Old Highway 74 and Squaw Pass Road for safety concerns, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
