President Donald Trump on Saturday lost it over Fox News putting a spotlight on Bill Maher after personalities at the the conservative network remarked on the comedian “calling out” California Gov. Gavin Newsom in a recent interview.
“Fox should stop putting this person on. He’s not representing us. You look weak, stupid, and ineffective, and I hate seeing that. DON’T USE BILL MAHER ANY LONGER AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF YOU!” wrote the president in a lengthy post to his Truth Social platform.
“I hate hearing that ‘Bill Maher said…’ — Bill Maher is a MORON, though slightly more talented than Jimmy Kimmel.”
The post arrived nearly 30 minutes after Fox News senior medical analyst Dr. Marc Siegel, in comments on the network’s “The Big Weekend Show,” pointed to Maher taking on the governor over California’s “economic failures.”
The network flashed a chyron reading, “The Truth Hurts,” before tossing to a clip of the “Real Time” host warning Newsom that critics on “the other side” will go after him on rising gas prices, rent costs and the state’s high-speed rail project.
“I mean the train. Gavin, you got to get rid of the train. I say this as a friend, you got to let that train go,” said Maher of a project that saw $4 billion in federal grants stripped by the Trump administration late last year.
Moments later, host Tomi Lahren described the long-delayed project as a “boondoggle” for Newsom before adding that she loved the way Maher “called him out” in the interview.
Trump used his post on Saturday to renew his feud with Maher, who was picked to receive the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor this year.
Trump — much like the insult-laden post about Maher on Valentine’s Day — used his latest rant to mock the comedian over their dinner at the White House last year.
The president has previously pushed for Republicans to stop using Maher to “show how the Left is coming over our way.”
On Saturday, Trump argued that Newsom took Maher “over the coals” in the interview before labeling the comedian as “defenseless and totally deficient,” suggesting he was someone who didn’t have the “knowledge” to ask about how California is faring under his time as governor.
