Alex Jones had an extreme reaction to the news that his Infowars media platform may soon be acquired by The Onion.
The satirical news site first attempted to buy the conspiracy-peddling website in November 2024, at an auction meant to raise the $1 billion in damages Jones was ordered to pay families of victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting. The conspiracy theorist spent years falsely claiming the shooting never happened and that the victims were actors.
Although a judge later rejected the sale over concerns of transparency, Ben Collins, chief executive at The Onion’s parent company, said Monday that a deal to take over the site had been reached.
Jones didn’t seem to be taking the news of the acquisition very well, based on a clip the Infowars social media channel posted Monday night on X.
In the clip, a shirtless Jones crashes the show of Infowars host Harrison Smith, who jokes that The Onion “has stolen the shirt off of Alex Jones’ back.”
Jones then goes on a tirade ― a shirtless tirade, to be specific ― as he gripes about the unfairness of it all.
“They’re gonna misrepresent that they’re us to confuse people and quote, ‘Rip people off like Alex Jones did,’” Jones laments. “They’re gonna make money. The whole thing’s about defaming me. You can’t take something over and then act like you’re somebody, even if you say it’s a parody. You could do a parody of somebody, but not if you took something from them.”
Jones claims he’s “already checked with lawyers, so they’re in deep shit,” and proclaims, “Look, just because you’re wearing my shirt don’t mean you’re me, so let’s be 100% clear about that.”

Under the terms of the news deal ― which still needs court approval ― Global Tetrahedron, The Onion’s parent company, won’t own Infowars outright but will license its name and website from a court-appointed manager of the site.
Jones could still appeal the proposed deal.
