In summary:

  • Tech Advisor reports that Samsung’s One UI 8.5 update will bring four AI-powered features from the upcoming Galaxy S26 to existing smartphones, including Call Screening, Photo Assist, Creative Studio, and Advanced Audio Eraser.
  • Galaxy S22 and newer models are expected to receive this free upgrade, with the stable version launching in South Korea on April 30 and global rollout beginning in May 2026.
  • These AI features offer enhanced protection from scam calls, advanced photo editing capabilities, and improved audio processing for videos.

Samsung is currently preparing the next update for its smartphones. One UI 8.5 is set to introduce a number of new features, which will apparently benefit not only current flagship devices but also older smartphones.

At least, that’s what Sammobile reports, having discovered that four features of the Samsung Galaxy S26 will be unlocked via a software update. These were spotted in a test version of One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

If you have a Galaxy S22 or later model, we expect you to receive the update.

The new features you could be getting

The four features in question are:

  • Call Screening
  • Advanced Audio Eraser
  • Creative Studio
  • Photo Assist

The ‘Call Screening’ feature is particularly interesting here. It’s also available on newer Google Pixel devices. It’ll protect you from accidentally connecting with scam calls. Once activated, an AI answers the phone for you and uses an automated prompt to check the caller’s name and the purpose of the call.

You’ll then receive a recording of the responses, as well as a transcript. You can then decide for yourself whether it’s worth calling back. Call Screening can also act as a deterrent to scammers, causing them to hang up immediately.

The other three features also use artificial intelligence, but for editing photos, videos or your own creations. The Advanced Audio Eraser removes distracting background noise, Photo Assist allows the AI to edit your photos, and Creative Studio will allow you to create your own stickers or images.

When will the update be available?

The first stable version of One UI 8.5 is set to be released in South Korea on 30 April. A global rollout will follow from May 2026. However, One UI 8.5 comes pre-installed on the Samsung Galaxy S26 series.

Important: Not all Galaxy smartphones will receive the update to One UI 8.5, as some have already fallen outside the support period or will do so shortly. However, devices from the Galaxy S22 onwards are expected to be supported.
