Mara Lezama, Governor of Quintana Roo, introduced that the 2025 sargassum season seems to be winding down forward of schedule.
Up to now, the state has collected roughly 120,000 tons of the brown seaweed alongside its shores. Cleanup efforts proceed as coastal groups stay vigilant for lingering influxes.

Based on the Secretaría de Marina, throughout the week of October 11 – 17, 188.4 tons of sargassum have been faraway from the seaside at Mahahual. In the meantime, Esteban Amaro, Director of the Quintana Roo Sargassum Monitoring Middle, reported a pointy drop in landings in current weeks:
“For nearly two weeks now, we’ve got seen a big lower within the quantity of sargassum arriving within the Mexican Caribbean. It’s a very noticeable lower.”
He added: “As of the final quantity I’ve, we have been above the 100,000 tons collected on the finish of August with an extra estimated 20,000 tons collected in September.”
Based on the Red de Monitoreo del Sargazo de Quintana Roo (RMSQR), 88 out of 100 monitored seashores alongside the North coast of Quintana Roo are at the moment free of serious sargassum landings.
