A grass fire burning at the entrance of Coal Creek Canyon in Arvada burned over 100 acres, sparked pre-evacuation warnings and closed roads on Saturday morning, fire officials said.
Law enforcement issued a pre-evacuation warning for the Candelas neighborhood after the Plainview fire began burning near Colorado 93 and Colorado 72 at 8:35 am., Arvada Fire Rescue spokesperson Brady Johnson said.
The fire had charred more than 100 acres and was 80% contained as of 10 a.m., fire officials said, and crews were working on mopping up and gaining full containment.
No one was injured and no structures were threatened by the fire, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.

“Breezy conditions and dry fuels enabled this fire to quickly grow in size,” fire officials said on social media.
Colorado 93 is closed in both directions between 58th Avenue and Colorado 170, and Colorado 72 is closed in both directions between between Colorado 93 and Plainview Road because of the fire, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The fire was largely boxed in on the northwest side of the two highways, Johnson said. The cause is under investigation and does not appear to be related to the nearby train tracks, according to the sheriff’s office.
