Jimmy Kimmel on Monday slammed Fox News for trying to cover up what he called a blatantly “shameful” act by President Donald Trump during a dignified transfer for fallen U.S. service members.
“We’ve now lost seven American lives in Trump’s war on Iran, and paying respect to troops who sacrificed everything as a result of a decision you made is one of, if not the most important things a president does,” Kimmel said. “But God forbid he just do it normally and respectfully.”
Trump attended the event in a cap ― specifically, one he sells on his own website for $55.
“Every situation is a merchandising opportunity,” Kimmel said. “And of course, whenever the president does something shameful, the heroes at Fox News swoop in to clean it up for him.”
Instead of showing Trump in his cap, the right-wing network aired old footage of Trump without a cap. The network owned up to what it called a “mistake” after alert viewers noticed and called them out on social media.
But Kimmel wasn’t having it ― because in addition to airing the wrong footage, Fox News let the incident slide largely without criticism.
Kimmel ran a supercut video of Fox News personalities throwing a fit over scenes such as then-President Barack Obama offering a salute with a coffee cup in his hand as he exited his chopper in 2014.
Check it out in his Monday night monologue:
