Flight delays are expected Wednesday afternoon at Denver International Airport as strong winds move into the metro area and Eastern Plains.
As of 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, 120 flights headed in and out of DIA were delayed and 4 were canceled, according to flight tracking software FlightAware.
The Federal Aviation Administration said ground stops and ground delays were “probable” at the Denver airport after 1 p.m. Wednesday, but no traffic management programs were in effect at 1:45 p.m.
Steady winds of up to 25 mph and 40 mph wind gusts are forecast for the airport throughout the afternoon, hourly forecasts from the National Weather Service show.
Delays at 1:45 p.m. included 40 Southwest flights, 37 United flights and 28 SkyWest flights. Eight other airlines delayed between one and three flights.
