Vice President JD Vance on Sunday defended the Trump administration’s elimination of diversity programs with racially charged remarks at Turning Point USA’s annual conference, The New York Times reported.
“We don’t treat anybody different because of their race or their sex, so we have relegated DEI to the dustbin of history, which is exactly where it had belonged,” Vance said. “In the United States of America, you don’t have to apologize for being white anymore.”
The vice president also diplomatically tiptoed around arguments made at the gathering for expelling extremists such as Nick Fuentes and Candace Owens from the conservative movement, the Times wrote.
“When I say that I’m going to fight alongside of you, I mean all of you — each and every one,” said Vance, who received a 2028 presidential endorsement from Turning Point CEO Erika Kirk. “President Trump did not build the greatest coalition in politics by running his supporters through endless, self-defeating purity tests.”
In a video shared by Bulwark, Vance told the crowd: “I didn’t bring a list of conservatives to denounce or de-platform. And I don’t really care if some people out there — I’m sure we’ll have the fake news media denounce me after this speech. … We have far more important work to do than canceling each other.”
