Big 5 Sporting Goods, a chain with stores in 11 Western states, is closing at least five locations in Colorado, employees said Wednesday.
The metro area stores to close include one in Denver at 1430 S Colorado Blvd; one in Lakewood at 7111 W. Alameda Ave; and one in Aurora at 10051 E. Iliff Ave.
A store in Fort Collins and one in Canon City are also scheduled to close, said Josue Navarro, a manager at the Lakewood location. He said stores in Westminster, Colorado Springs and Highlands Ranch will stay open.
Employees said the Aurora and Denver stores are scheduled to close Jan. 18. The Lakewood store will close its doors March 15.
Planned closures were also reported in two Idaho communities: Pocatello and Garden City. Messages were left with the California-based company for more details.
Big 5 Sporting Goods Corp. merged with a partnership of Worldwide Golf and Capitol Hill Group in October 2025. At the time, the company said it had 410 stores.
