Edifier G2000 Pro Desktop Computer Speakers Review

Summary

The Edifier G2000 Pro delivers a well-balanced blend of gaming-focused design and surprisingly capable audio performance for its compact size. Sound quality is strong across games, films and music, with effective EQ presets and a virtual surround effect that adds immersion without overselling its limitations. RGB lighting and wide connectivity enhance its appeal on a modern gaming desk, although the Windows-only software, limited lighting customisation and average physical controls detract slightly. At discounted pricing, it represents good value for gamers who want both aesthetics and solid audio, but at full RRP, more neutral monitor speakers remain the better choice for pure sound quality.

Pros

  • Impressive sound quality for compact desktop speakers with strong gaming performance.

  • Attractive transparent design with subtle, desk-friendly RGB lighting.

  • Versatile connectivity including USB, Bluetooth 5.4 and 3.5 mm AUX.

Cons

  • HECATE software is Windows-only, limiting customisation for macOS users.

  • RGB colour options are restrictive despite the lighting focus.

  • Control buttons lack tactile feedback and clear input confirmation

Edifier has built a solid reputation over the years for producing audio equipment that punches well above its price point. Having previously reviewed the Edifier MR4 monitor speakers and been thoroughly impressed by their performance-to-price ratio, I was keen to see what the company could deliver with the G2000 Pro – their latest gaming-focused desktop speakers. These compact units promise RGB lighting, Bluetooth connectivity, and virtual 7.1 surround sound, all wrapped in a distinctive design that sets them apart from the competition.

The gaming speaker market has become increasingly crowded, with manufacturers competing not just on sound quality but also on aesthetics and features. The G2000 Pro represents Edifier’s answer to this challenge, building upon the foundation laid by the original G2000 whilst adding several notable improvements. The question is whether these enhancements justify the higher price point and whether the speakers can truly deliver on their ambitious feature list.

Over the past few weeks, I have put these speakers through their paces across various gaming scenarios, music listening sessions, and film viewing. In this review, I will examine every aspect of the G2000 Pro, from the build quality and design to the sound performance and software integration, to determine whether it deserves a place on your desktop.

Compact Design, Perfect for Your Tabletop Setup

With a base width of approximately 8 to 10 centimetres, this sleek, space-saving design fits seamlessly into any environment. The three-sided panoramic light-transparent housing adds a premium, atmospheric glow, allowing you to create a professional tabletop aesthetic. Each speaker measures roughly 297 x 250 x 180 millimetres and together they weigh approximately 1.6 kilograms, making them easy to position and reposition as needed.

The compact footprint is genuinely impressive when you consider the audio output these speakers are capable of producing. Unlike bulkier desktop speaker systems that dominate desk space, the G2000 Pro units can sit comfortably beside a monitor without overwhelming your setup. The base of each speaker is smaller than your palm, which allows for flexible placement options even on crowded desks.

Sound Beyond Boundaries: Power Reimagined

The G2000 Pro delivers 32W of total output power in a compact design, creating an expansive soundstage that belies the speakers’ modest dimensions. Despite the small footprint, this system supports substantial power output to create a vast sound field. Utilising a 2.0 architecture for dedicated left and right channels, it builds a deep, immersive soundstage. This configuration provides the freedom to fully extend audio range and effortlessly present grand, cinematic moments from high-budget AAA games.

The frequency response range spans from 75Hz to 20kHz, which covers the vast majority of audible frequencies that matter for gaming and music playback. Whilst the lack of a dedicated subwoofer means the very lowest frequencies will not be present, the speakers compensate with surprisingly punchy bass performance for their size class.

Full-Range Driver System for Powerful Sound

Custom-designed 76 millimetre large-diameter full-range drivers are paired with a digital amplifier for robust power and enhanced bass response. Featuring dual neodymium iron-boron magnets, the system delivers exceptional clarity across high, mid, and low frequencies. This ensures a balanced acoustic experience suitable for both general entertainment and competitive gaming.

The internal magnet system provides high thrust for a deep 75Hz low-frequency extension, resulting in powerful bass with a solid punch. The 10-degree upward tilt reduces desk-surface audio reflection interference, delivering sound directly to the ears for a more natural and accurate listening experience. This thoughtful engineering detail makes a noticeable difference when the speakers are positioned on a desk at typical sitting height.

Precision Sound Localisation

The high coherence of the full-range drivers combined with an ultra-wide soundstage ensures more accurate sound positioning. This precision is engineered to meet the specific demands of large-scale FPS games where directional audio is critical for gameplay. During testing with competitive titles, the speakers provided reasonably good spatial awareness, though I would note that dedicated headphones still offer superior positional audio for serious competitive play.

Independent DSP Chip: 7.1 Surround Sound

Experience cinematic-quality gaming and audio through the integrated 7.1 virtual surround sound system. This is achieved via seamless hardware and software collaboration between the dedicated DSP chip and the HECATE Gaming Centre software, ensuring every acoustic detail is rendered with precision. It is important to emphasise the word ‘virtual’ here – these are physically a 2.0 speaker system, and no amount of digital processing can fully replicate the experience of having seven speakers and a subwoofer positioned around your room.

That said, the virtual surround processing does add a sense of spatial depth to audio that would otherwise be purely stereo. For casual gaming and media consumption, it provides an enhanced experience. However, anyone expecting true surround sound performance should temper their expectations accordingly.

Professional Sound Effects: Tailored for Every Scene

The system includes pre-calibrated sound profiles designed to optimise performance based on your current activity. Whether you are gaming, watching films, or listening to music, the digital processing adjusts the EQ to highlight the most important frequencies for that specific medium. Switching between modes is handled via the G button on the control panel, with each mode indicated by a distinctive audio prompt – a musical trill for music mode, what sounds like a chugging engine for movie mode, and a gun reloading sound for gaming mode.

I found myself genuinely appreciating the different EQ profiles during testing. The gaming mode emphasises frequencies that help with directional audio and explosions, whilst the music mode provides a more balanced and neutral presentation. However, if you prefer to fine-tune the audio yourself, the companion software offers a 10-band equaliser for more granular control.

TempoFlow Lighting Technology

The transparent rear shell design blends light and acoustics in a visually striking manner. Sound and light work in tandem, with the visual elements reflecting the intensity of the audio. Each speaker unit contains 20 LED light strips housing 100 full-colour LED beads, delivering precise lighting effects controlled by a professional-grade chipset. The TempoFlow dynamic lighting technology synchronises visual pulses with audio output, creating an atmospheric gaming environment.

The rear-orientated lighting design ensures the gaming atmosphere is enhanced without causing visual fatigue during night-time use. The effect is subtle yet impactful, maintaining a premium esports aesthetic. The system features seven built-in dynamic lighting modes which are fully customisable via the HECATE Gaming Centre software. Users can modify light frequency, rotation speed, and direction to break away from dull surroundings and enjoy a vibrant, sound-responsive atmosphere.

Three Connection Modes

The interface supports Bluetooth 5.4, USB-A and USB-C audio streaming, and a standard 3.5mm AUX input. This versatility allows for seamless control and connectivity across mobile phones, computers, televisions, and other smart devices. The speakers are certified for use with PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch, making them a genuinely versatile option for multi-platform gamers. In the box, you will find the G2000 Pro speakers, a power adaptor, a USB-A cable, a USB-A to USB-C adapter, and a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable, so you have everything needed to get started immediately.

Design

Edifier G2000 Pro Desktop Computer Speakers Review 1

The Edifier G2000 Pro speakers are available in three colour options: black, white, and pink. For this review, I tested the white variant, which presents a clean, modern aesthetic that would complement most desk setups. The design language is unmistakably gaming-focused, with the transparent rear housing revealing the internal components and providing a platform for the RGB lighting effects.

Each speaker features a stretched hexagonal shape that gives them a distinctly futuristic appearance. The front face is dominated by the speaker driver, with a black surface contrasted by a silver centre bearing the HECATE logo – Edifier’s gaming sub-brand. The transparent rear panels expose the white and silver internal housing, creating a look that feels both premium and purposeful.

The right-hand speaker houses the control panel across its top edge, featuring four buttons for input selection, Bluetooth pairing, volume control, EQ switching, and lighting adjustments. This is perhaps the weakest element of the physical design. The buttons are minimalist and subtle, which means they cannot easily be operated by touch alone – you will often need to look down to confirm which button you are pressing. For some users, this may prove frustrating, particularly if the speakers are positioned in a way that makes the control panel difficult to see.

One minor annoyance I encountered during testing was the input selection system, which simply cycles through the available inputs with each button press rather than providing voice prompts to indicate the current selection. This led to occasional confusion about which input was active, particularly after switching between different devices. A simple audio prompt announcing the current input would have been a welcome addition.

Connectivity

Edifier0G200 Pro 1

The G2000 Pro offers comprehensive connectivity options that should satisfy most users’ requirements. The Bluetooth 5.4 implementation provides reliable wireless connection with my testing devices, though I did notice a slight reduction in audio quality compared to wired connections. This is largely due to the speakers only supporting the standard SBC Bluetooth codec – there is no support for higher-quality codecs such as AAC, aptX, or LDAC. For users who prioritise audio quality, a wired connection via USB or AUX is recommended.

The USB connectivity works well for PC gaming, providing a digital audio path that bypasses any potential noise from analogue connections. The included USB-A to USB-C adapter is a thoughtful addition that ensures compatibility with modern laptops and devices that may lack full-size USB ports. The 3.5mm AUX input provides universal compatibility for any device with a headphone output, from games consoles to televisions to portable music players.

Switching between input sources is straightforward – a single press of the power button cycles through the available options. This makes it practical to keep the speakers connected to multiple devices simultaneously and switch between them as needed, though the lack of clear audio feedback about the current selection remains a minor frustration.

HECATE Gaming Centre Software

To access the full range of customisation options for the G2000 Pro, you will need to download the HECATE Gaming Centre software. The application provides a clean, straightforward interface that makes it easy to adjust settings without diving into complex menus. Through the software, you can fine-tune the 10-band equaliser, toggle and customise the RGB lighting effects, enable or disable the 7.1 virtual surround sound processing, and update the speakers’ firmware.

Unfortunately, the software is currently only available for Windows, which means macOS users will miss out on these customisation options. This is disappointing for anyone using a Mac as their primary machine, though the speakers still function perfectly well without the software – you just lose access to the more granular controls.

The lighting customisation options within the software are somewhat limited. You can choose between six preset colours or a rainbow effect, but there is no option to set a custom colour via RGB values or colour picker. If your setup uses a specific colour scheme – say, orange or cyan – you may find it impossible to match the G2000 Pro’s lighting to your existing aesthetic. This seems like an odd oversight for speakers that place such emphasis on their RGB capabilities.

Sound Quality

Edifier G2000 Pro Desktop Computer Speakers Review 2

In terms of audio performance, the Edifier G2000 Pro genuinely surprised me with their capability. For speakers of this size and price point, they deliver a remarkably full and engaging sound. The 76mm full-range drivers produce a balanced presentation across the frequency spectrum, with clear highs, present mids, and respectable bass extension down to the claimed 75Hz.

Gaming performance is where these speakers truly shine. During extended sessions with titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Cyberpunk 2077, dialogue remained clear and intelligible even during chaotic action sequences. Explosions and gunfire had satisfying weight without becoming harsh or fatiguing. The virtual surround processing adds a sense of spatial depth that enhances immersion, even if it cannot replicate true multi-speaker surround sound.

For music listening, the G2000 Pro performs admirably when set to the appropriate EQ mode. The music preset provides a balanced, neutral presentation that works well across genres. Rock and electronic music benefit from the punchy bass response, whilst acoustic and classical recordings are presented with reasonable detail and clarity. At higher volumes, I did notice some compression and slight distortion creeping in above approximately 80 percent volume, so those seeking room-filling sound may want to consider larger speakers.

Film and television content sounds equally impressive. Dialogue is prioritised in the movie EQ mode, ensuring speech remains audible even during action-heavy scenes. The soundstage is surprisingly wide for desktop speakers, providing a more cinematic experience than you might expect from such compact units.

Comparing the G2000 Pro to my Edifier MR4 monitor speakers, the MR4 does offer a more neutral, reference-grade presentation that audiophiles might prefer. However, for gaming-focused use, the G2000 Pro’s tuning and feature set make them the more compelling choice. The RGB lighting, virtual surround processing, and gaming-optimised EQ profiles add genuine value for the intended audience.

Price and Alternative Options

The Edifier G2000 Pro have an RRP of GBP 150 and are regularly discounted to approximately GBP 120 on Amazon UK. At the discounted price, they represent reasonable value for money given their feature set and performance. However, at full price, the value proposition becomes more debatable, particularly when you consider the alternatives.

The non-Pro Edifier G2000, which has been available for quite a while, can be purchased for around GBP 80 and offers 32W total peak power. If you can live without the enhanced RGB lighting and updated connectivity options, the original G2000 represents a more budget-friendly entry point to the range.

The Edifier QD35 offers a different form factor but equally impressive gaming styling. This is available for approximately GBP 120 and provides an alternative aesthetic for those who prefer its design language over the G2000 Pro’s hexagonal form.

I personally found the Edifier MR4 to be outstanding value. They are monitor speakers with a basic all-black appearance, so represent a very different design philosophy, but at around GBP 100, they offer exceptional sound quality for those who prioritise audio performance over gaming aesthetics. For pure audio quality in a desktop speaker, the MR4 remains difficult to beat at its price point.

Outside the Edifier family, the SteelSeries Arena 3 at approximately GBP 120 offers competition with its own gaming-focused feature set, though I found the G2000 Pro to deliver superior audio performance. The Logitech Z407 provides a 2.1 system with subwoofer for similar money, which may appeal to those who prioritise bass extension over RGB lighting and compact form factor.

Overall

The Edifier G2000 Pro speakers succeed in delivering a compelling package for gamers who want both style and substance from their desktop audio. The distinctive design with transparent housing and reactive RGB lighting sets them apart from more conservative alternatives, whilst the audio performance exceeds expectations for speakers of this size and price.

The sound quality is genuinely impressive across gaming, music, and film content. The various EQ presets are well-tuned for their intended purposes, and the virtual surround processing adds value even if it cannot replace true multi-speaker configurations. Connectivity options are comprehensive, with Bluetooth 5.4, USB, and AUX inputs covering virtually any use case.

However, there are areas where the G2000 Pro falls short. The HECATE Gaming Centre software being Windows-only excludes Mac users from the full customisation experience. The limited RGB colour options seem at odds with the speakers’ emphasis on lighting as a key feature. The control panel buttons could be more tactile and informative, and the lack of lossless Bluetooth codec support is disappointing for a 2025 product.

At the discounted price of around GBP 120, the G2000 Pro represents good value for gamers seeking a visually striking audio solution. At the full GBP 150 RRP, you should carefully consider whether the RGB features justify the premium over more utilitarian alternatives. For those who prioritise aesthetics and want speakers that look as good as they sound, the G2000 Pro delivers on its promises. If you simply want the best possible audio quality for your budget, the Edifier MR4 or similar monitor speakers might be a wiser investment.

Ultimately, the Edifier G2000 Pro speakers are a good choice for their intended audience. They look fantastic, sound genuinely good, and offer features that enhance the gaming experience. Just be aware of their limitations regarding software support and customisation options, and you will likely be satisfied with your purchase.
