Los Cabos has always been a hugely popular destination for Americans who crave some winter sunshine and five-star pampering (especially if they’re coming from the West Coast).

A convenient long weekend escapade, it is known for its fast-developing resort strip, with landmark properties overlooking golden sands and an azure ocean, and an up-and-coming cultural scene.

That’s not exactly news, though. On the other hand, what has captured our attention is how Los Cabos is breaking all records that stand in its way this season, racing ahead of other Mexican beach hotspots that have had a noticeable slowdown in recent weeks.

Cancun, we’re looking at you.

Cabo’s Impressive Year So Far

As reported by our partners over at the Cabo Sun, from January to October 2025, Los Cabos has hosted an all-time high of 3,830,200 international visitors, up from 3,813,200 in the previous year.

We know numbers are boring, and we’re definitely not about to give you the run-down of these complicated stats and industry figures, don’t worry. The main takeaway here is Cabo has never been as trendy as it is now.

Oh, and should the upward trend continue by year’s end, 2025 is poised to be the best-performing year in Cabo’s history.

All things considered, what is it about Los Cabos that has somehow shielded it from the fast-spreading ‘Mexico fatigue‘?

Visitors Are Treated Like Royalty

Two years ago, we reported on how Los Cabos continued to be the darling of beach-loving Americans despite the soaring overnight rates. At the time, those averaged a whopping $600.

In short, let’s just say prices haven’t exactly dropped since then, especially with the addition of at least nine luxury resorts on the horizon, but Cabo lovers aren’t exactly fazed. In some cases, they might as well be dipping into their savings to cover vacation costs.

The thing is, even when they’re splurging, much to the detriment of their long-term plans, visitors to Cabo know it will be worth every single hard-earned penny: hotels at this destination are known to go above and beyond in ensuring guests feel special, and basically like royalty.

From the private chauffeur waiting at the airport, to the dedicated butler service, the modern amenities, and the top-notch spa treatments, all the way to the epic rooms with views that go on forever. Sure, it may cost an arm and a leg, but everyone deserves to treat themselves once in a while.

An Understated Cultural Scene

There have always been talks in traveler circles that Los Cabos is one of 3 Mexican destinations, alongside Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, where culture doesn’t necessarily take the forefront. People come here to lounge by the poolside, sip on margaritas, and watch the waves crash against the shore.

No Mayan pyramids, no picture-perfect center, no majestic Baroque cathedral.

While there’s definitely some truth to that, Cabo has been reimagining itself to attract culture buffs, from the revitalization of the downtown zone to the creation of both a Gastronomic Route and Historical Cultural Route.

These highlight the zone’s best-rated and most traditional restaurants, particularly along Marina Boulevard, as well as points of interest, such as the Alley of Art, an open-air art installation that’s always getting updated, and the 18th-century Mission San José Church.

Americans Can Fly Cheap To Cabo

There’s no denying Americans love the convenience of a short, nonstop flight that gets them to a sun-drenched destination with minimal hassle.

If they’re Cabo-headed, they’re in luck, as there are currently at least 11 direct routes available, including 4 out of California alone.

Of course, flight availability is not the only big draw. They have to be cheap. Well, needless to say, Americans can get incredible deals flying to Cabo from several U.S. departure points, most notably Los Angeles (LAX), the number one international route going to the Baja California Sur hub.

Roundtrips usually average around $260–$300, and even outside peak season, they are generally priced in the $300s.

The second-busiest route by number of passengers is out of Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), and for those, fares sit somewhere between $400 and $500, depending on the season. For the third most popular, out of Phoenix (PHX), the typical price bands around mid $400s.

Last but not least, there’s no discussing Los Cabos without acknowledging its exceptional levels of safety.

In a country where several states are plagued with travel warnings, Baja California Sur (the state where Cabo is located) has consistently remained at Level 2, as per the U.S. Travel Advisory.

Technical terms aside, this simply means Americans are not discouraged from visiting Los Cabos, including other seemingly more dangerous destinations, like Tijuana or Ciudad Juárez.

They are still urged to be ‘cautious’, alright, but crime affecting tourists is extremely uncommon in the tourist zone, so much so that we could not find any recent report of a violent incident involving a visitor in the past year.

Cabo’s status as an upscale travel spot, on the radar of Hollywood celebs themselves, helps keep surveillance levels high, and petty theft low, but it’s not the only explanation behind the phenomenon:

The intense policing along the driveways that lead from the north of the Baja California peninsula, infamous for its gang activity, and the deployment of special forces to Cabo’s downtown zone, precisely to ensure tourists are safe, has made it an extremely unappealing destination for criminals.

All in all, Cabo is luxury personified; it has an understated cultural scene, it’s easy to get to, and it’s as safe as can be. What’s not to like?
