Boston:
A passenger took management of a small airplane and made an emergency touchdown on a Massachusetts island after the pilot suffered a medical emergency on Saturday, The Washington Put up reported.
The incident occurred Saturday afternoon close to Martha’s Winery Airport in West Tisbury, Massachusetts. The 79-year-old male pilot suffered the emergency through the airplane’s last strategy, Massachusetts state police mentioned.
“The crash resulted in a tough touchdown off the runway that broke the airplane’s left wing in half,” The Put up quoted state police as saying.
Nevertheless, authorities didn’t identify both particular person on the airplane and mentioned each had been taken to a hospital.
The pilot was then flown to a hospital in Boston in a life-threatening situation. The feminine passenger was unhurt and was launched from an area hospital, the Put up reported, citing police.
The 2006 Piper Meridian airplane took off from Westchester County, New York, on Saturday afternoon. The pilot and passenger are each residents of Connecticut, police mentioned.
State Police, the Nationwide Transportation Security Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash. An FAA spokesman mentioned the NTSB is in control of the investigation.
The airplane was eliminated and brought to a protected location on the airport and the scene of the accident evacuated, The Put up reported citing state police.
The crash occurred almost 24 years to the day after a Piper crash killed John F Kennedy Jr., his spouse Carolyn Bessette, and her sister Lauren Bessette at Martha’s Winery.
