If you can’t resist a Caribbean escapade but you’ve had enough of the same old Cancun / Punta Cana all-inclusives, it’s just got easier than ever to visit one of the most underrated islands in the tropical sea, without the unnecessarily long stopovers.

Known for its verdant peaks, white-sand beaches, and lush rainforests sprinkled with hot springs, Dominica is the perfect alternative to the usual cliches, and it will see a significant improvement in connectivity with the U.S. this winter.

So pack your bags, because paradise just moved within easy reach for millions:

The Nature Island Within Easier Reach This Winter

According to an announcement made by Dominica’s Ministry of Tourism, flight options for the upcoming high season (December 2025 through February 2026) have expanded enormously:

A bunch of different major airlines, including United, American, LIAT, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and Caribbean Airlines, have enhanced their international connectivity flying to and from Dominica due to ‘growing demand’.

Let’s focus on U.S. carriers: for starters, United is now offering twice-weekly direct flights to DOM from their Newark (EWR) hub, as well as daily one-stop services.

When it comes to American Airlines, they have just launched on December 18 twice-daily service from Miami (MIA), officially America’s busiest airport for Latin America and Caribbean-bound flights, and a popular transit hub for millions of U.S. travelers.

Where Can You Fly To Dominica From?

One-stop flights from Europe will be offered through British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, and on the Caribbean side, LIAT is handling the Dominican Republic-Dominica route, while Contour Airlines connects the island country with U.S. territories St. Thomas and Puerto Rico.

Lastly, Caribbean Airlines is maintaining its thrice-weekly flights between San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Dominica through January 10, 2026.

All in all, it’s great news for the typically-isolated, overlooked Dominica, that’s serviced by a small airport hosting limited year-round flights, and that has never drawn as much attention as it’s getting right now.

In the words of Hon. Denise Charles-Pemberton, ‘the enhanced airlift’ reflects the Ministry of Tourism’s commitment to improving Dominica’s connectivity with the world, and ensuring ‘travel to the Nature Island becomes easier for visitors’.

Why Visit Dominica This Winter?

Dominica is not your typical all-inclusive Caribbean island. It’s somewhere you go for exploring nature, going on hikes down to unruffled beaches, away from the usual resorts, and slowing it down a notch.

The island is dominated by the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a mountainous reserve best known for its steam-covered Boiling Lake, 65m-tall Trafalgar Falls, which empty straight into a tranquil, crystal-clear pool, and Titou Gorge, the island’s river rafting hotspot.

Over in the Cabrits National Park, you’ll find more practically untouched forest footpaths, ocean views, and a historic Fort Shirley, built by the British in the 18th century.

As for beaches, there are numerous postcard-ready swimming spots to pick from, whether it’s Batibou Beach, with its soaring palm trees and turquoise seas, or Mero Beach, distinguished by its black sand and local food stalls.

If you’re looking for something truly unique, however, Champagne Beach is a tranquil strip of sand where you can snorkel to see volcanic bubbles rising from the seabed. Needless to say, the waters there are particularly warm.
