According to a new report from Cabo Sun insiders, it appears world-renowned Cabo is struggling to get heads on pillows and butts on barstools.
Seeing a huge stall in visitors for summer, that’s not to say Baja’s southernmost paradise isn’t worth visiting — quite the opposite.
This may be the perfect time to take advantage of wide-open shores, less-crowded bars, cleaner photo ops that don’t require scrubbing out photo-bombers, and hopefully lower prices once Cabo realizes travelers need a little extra incentive to click “book”.
A Unicorn Year: Major Cities Surge Beyond The Beach
If Cabo hosted the World Cup, costs might spike even more than they already have.
But that’s exactly why travelers worldwide are flocking to Mexico’s inner circuit instead of the coast.
Cities like Guadalajara, Monterrey, and the never-ending sprawl of Mexico City are luring tourists to witness World Cup matches on Mexican soil.
Factor in rising fuel prices for airlines, which not only put the final nail in the coffin for Spirit Airlines but are also stretching travelers’ budgets this summer.
That said, if you can sacrifice the big game in person for a TV at Cabo Wabo’s Cantina, there’s no better summer to take advantage.
Many flights are operating as usual. Cabo is still one of the most accessible Mexican paradises for American sun-seekers, though the Cabo Sun only singled out Delta’s suspension of its Seattle-Los Cabos route.
Americans, Canadians & Mexicans Align: Cabo Dubbed A “Ghost Town”
The Cabo Sun wasn’t afraid to call it like it is, sifting through Cabo’s summer forecast, essentially calling it a “ghost town”.
While there’s definitely some hyperbole there, as it’s a far cry from Tombstone, Arizona, the point is for a record-breaking vacation spot that never seems to stop, for Cabo’s standards, it’s undoubtedly ‘ghostly’.

Take advantage of fewer crowds and better pricing as Americans, Canadians, and Mexican nationals have all tapped the brakes on Cabo for the next couple of months, according to Los Cabos Tourism Promotion Trust (Fiturca):
- U.S. arrivals are down a staggering 49% compared to last year
- Canadian tourism has fallen 23%
- Domestic travel within Mexico has slipped 16%
- Airport traffic is showing cracks, with overall arrivals at the international airport dropping 2.5% in the first quarter of 2026
Cabo Remains One Of Mexico’s Safest Destinations
Crowds, no crowds, or full-blown Spring Break shenanigans, there’s no denying that Los Cabos is a true safe haven year-round.
As you know, Los Cabos is practically two different cities wrapped up in one, with Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, the more old-school traditional side that actually feels like Mexico instead of an Americans’ wristband-required dreamscape.
According to our Safety Index tool, as well as the U.S. State Department’s current low “Level 2” travel advisory, any way you slice it, Cabo is widely considered safe.
Cabo San Lucas:
Travelers are scoring the Cabo San Lucas side of Los Cabos with an almost unbeatable 94/100.
San Jose del Cabo:
The more historic side of Los Cabos falls behind just a hair as travelers are currently scoring San Jose del Cabo with 93/100.
