A veterinary hospital in Brentwood, California, shared footage of a Saturday morning break-in where two people could be seen stealing pet ashes waiting to be returned to grieving families.
“Their actions will cause immeasurable pain to grieving families who have already suffered so much,” Central Boulevard Veterinary Hospital wrote on social media. “These ashes hold deep emotional value, and we are desperate to get them back to the people who loved these pets.”
The footage shared on social media showed two people breaking into the hospital through the glass front door shortly after 6 a.m, before splitting off inside. One of the suspects can be seen attempting to rummage behind the counter while the other appears to go to another room.
Shortly after, the two left through the same front door they used to break in. Brentwood Police confirmed in a statement that the suspects had failed to gain access to the register and authorities were dispatched to the scene hours later, “around 8:09 a.m.”
“If anyone finds any pet ashes, urns, paw prints, or containers discarded anywhere in Brentwood or the surrounding areas, please contact us immediately,” the veterinary hospital wrote on social media. “We are not concerned about anything else that was taken — we just want to return these pets to their homes. No family should have to experience this level of grief again.”
