Fausto Puglisi was in Las Vegas over the weekend, dressing Ciara for an appearance at amfAR’s gala there. Her leopard spot slip dress was pure Roberto Cavalli, animal prints and skin-bearing déshabillé being the Italian company’s raisons d’etre since the late founder’s heyday.
Deft with the prints and textures, Puglisi is a passionate steward of the Cavalli brand. He enjoys rooting around in the archives and resurrecting favorite motifs like the Japanese kimono florals from a spring 2003 collection seen in a trio of evening looks for pre-fall 2026. (Originals can go for five-figures on the resale market, and he’s heard from top models including Vittoria Ceretti about reviving them.) Other times, he’s giving tried-and-true patterns his own creative spin; Ciara’s leopard spots, for example, are decorated with voluptuous pink roses here. Patchwork prints, meanwhile, are an everyday-ish interpretation of his own popular fall 2023 show, the one that found him in high glamazon mode.
Playing counterpoint to the kaleidoscopic patterns this season is an ivory and white bias-cut slip dress that dips precipitously low in the back. No one’s called dibs on that yet, according to Puglisis, but may we suggest he shows it to @vittoria?
