Social media users sure thought the Obama Foundation may have thrown some subtle, yet pointed, shade at President Donald Trump and his MAGA supporters ahead of Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday.
The foundation shared a montage video on X, formerly Twitter, featuring Bad Bunny songs that former President Barack Obama has included on his annual favorite songs lists over the years.
The clip ended by wishing viewers a “Happy Benito Bowl!”
But it was the caption that really set social media alight.
“From one natural-born US citizen to another, have a great Benito Bowl!” it read.
Trump, of course, was a prominent promoter of the racist “birther” conspiracy theory, which falsely claimed that Obama was not born in the United States and therefore was not a legitimate president.
Meanwhile, Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny, real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, faced baseless claims from some on the political right questioning whether he was “really” American ahead of his halftime performance.
Only last week, the president was widely condemned for sharing a video online in which Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama were depicted as what looked like a cartoon chimpanzee and gorilla.
