The street resulting in the highest of the newly renamed Mount Blue Sky has closed for the season.
The primary 9 miles of Mount Evans Road from Echo Lake to Summit Lake closed Tuesday.
That portion of the street usually stays open a couple of month longer than the highest portion of the street from Summit Lake to the highest of Mount Blue Sky, which closed the day after Labor Day.
The street is scheduled to reopen subsequent 12 months on Could 27, 2024.
Mount Blue Sky was formally renamed from Mount Evans final month, honoring the Cheyenne and Arapaho folks.
The Arapaho individuals are referred to as the “Blue Sky Individuals,” and the Cheyenne folks “have an annual ceremony marking the renewal of life referred to as ‘Blue Sky,’” based on the petition submitted by the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes and the Wilderness Society, a nonprofit conservation group.
