Outgoing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) warned that President Donald Trump’s grip on the GOP may be loosening, and also predicted Republicans could be headed for a dismal outcome in the 2026 midterm elections.
“I think the dam is breaking,” Greene said in an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that aired Tuesday on “The Source.”

Greene, who has recently drawn Trump’s ire after breaking with him on several issues, pointed to signs of growing Republican resistance. She cited the 13 GOP lawmakers who voted to overturn Trump’s executive order allowing the firing of federal workers, as well as Indiana Republicans who opposed a redistricting plan backed by Trump.
“That’s a sign where you’re seeing Republicans are entering the campaign phase for 2026,” Greene said. “Which is a large signal that lame-duck season has begun and that Republicans will go in, all in for themselves, in order to save their own reelections.”
Collins asked Greene: “You think the dam is breaking in terms of the president’s iron grip of support when it comes to your party?”
“Absolutely,” Greene replied. “Those 13 Republicans that voted to take down his executive order last week, literally that same evening, put on their tuxedos and their evening ball gowns and went to the White House Christmas party. That’s pretty bold.”
Greene predicted serious trouble for Republicans in the next election cycle.
“I think the midterms are going to be very hard for Republicans,” she said. “I’m one of the people that’s willing to admit the truth and say I don’t see Republicans winning the midterms right now.”
She also forecast that more House and Senate Republicans will soon split with Trump, and pushed back on his claims that concerns over affordability are exaggerated.
“Affordability is a crisis,” Greene said, who urged more empathy from the president.
Greene, herself no stranger to inflammatory remarks, also condemned Trump’s comments following the killings of actor-director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, after Trump dismissed Reiner as “deranged” for previously criticizing him.
“I thought that statement was absolutely completely below the office of the president of the United States,” Greene said. “Classless, and it was just wrong.”
She also brushed off speculation that Trump, before their split on issues, might have attended her wedding to Real America’s Voice host Brian Glenn, to whom she announced her engagement this weekend.
“Not necessarily,” Greene said. “Brian and I aren’t like that. We’ll probably do something a little smaller.”
