Two MAGA-loving moms at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Grapevine, Texas, on Thursday said they believe Barron Trump should serve in the military.
One of the unidentified women, who was wearing a white MAGA cap, told MS NOW’s Rosa Flores she had “started off pretty upset” with Donald Trump’s Iran war, which is now in its fourth week and already has claimed the lives of 13 U.S. service members.
“I have an 18-year-old son so that really hit close to home,” she said. “We had to get him registered for the Selective Service and everything and so I wasn’t happy about it.”
She went on to defend the conflict, however, citing what she had seen in Iran and the threat she believed it posed to the U.S.
“If my son was called to go, I would still support the war,” she added.
After airing the footage, Flores told anchor Chris Jansing she asked the woman about Trump’s youngest son, who turned 20 last week and, like his father and siblings, has not served in the military.
“She was there with her friend and both mothers agreed that if soldiers were sent to war, if this woman’s son was sent to war, they both agreed that Barron Trump should also serve in the military,” Flores said.
“And I said, ‘Well, do you think that he would actually do that?’ And they said, well, they think that he would do the right thing.”
The calls echo similar remarks from other commentators.
MS NOW’s Lawrence O’Donnell and former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura are among those who have argued Trump should send his youngest son to serve.
“A war is justified” only if those launching it are willing to send their own children into battle, decorated Navy SEAL veteran Ventura said this week.
O’Donnell, meanwhile, likened Barron Trump to a “spoiled” princess. Listen to his analysis here.
