Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) on Tuesday delivered a biting comeback after President Donald Trump called her “garbage” during a Cabinet meeting and insulted her birth country of Somalia. He has attacked Omar on numerous occasions since Thanksgiving.
“Somalia, which is barely a country, they have no anything, they just run around killing each other,” said Trump, adding: “And when I see somebody like Ilhan Omar who, I don’t know at all, but I always watch her, for years I’ve watched her complain about our Constitution.”
The president went on to claim that all she does is “complain,” that Omar “hates Jewish people” and that she is “a real terrible person.” Omar, the first Africa-born refugee to serve in Congress, hit back on Bluesky with two sentences accompanying a clip of Trump’s comments.
“His obsession with me is creepy,” she wrote. “I hope he gets the help he desperately needs.”
Trump has attacked Omar on numerous occasions over the years. He published a Truth Social screed Thursday that was so egregious even some pro-Trump Republicans were shocked, however, as he insulted her appearance, Muslim faith and birthplace.
“Ilhan Omar, always wrapped in her swaddling hijab, and who probably came into the U.S.A. illegally in that you are not allowed to marry your brother, does nothing but hatefully complain about our Country, its Constitution, and how ‘badly’ she is treated,” he wrote.
Trump went on to call her home country “decadent, backward, and crime ridden,” falsely stating that Somalia doesn’t have a government, military, police presence or schools. He then announced a permanent pause on migration “from all Third World Countries.”

Trump went even further Tuesday during his Cabinet meeting, suggesting the U.S. is “at a tipping point” because of the “garbage” being let into the country. He then said, “Ilhan Omar is garbage. She’s garbage. Her friends are garbage.”
“They complain,” he added. “And from where they came from, they got nothing. You know, they came from paradise and they said this isn’t paradise. But when they come from hell and they complain and do nothing but bitch, we don’t want them in our country.”
Omar has used social media to publicly address Trump’s insults before.
Gov. Tim Walz (D), whom Trump called “seriously retarded” in his Thanksgiving post, touched on burgeoning concerns over the president’s health just as Omar did when he reacted to the insult — writing on social media Thursday, “Release the MRI results.”
Trump recently had his second “yearly” physical exam, which included an MRI, and praised his results to reporters.
