Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) was asked by a journalist on Tuesday if he had a message for Donald Trump’s “MAGA voters who are concerned right now” that the United States could be being dragged into “another forever war” with the U.S.-Israel attacks on Iran.
“I would say stay concerned,” the Trump sycophant replied.
“I mean, be concerned, be vigilant, hold our feet to the fire, keep us honest on that issue,” he added, appearing to acknowledge that the military operations have drawn anger from many adherents to Trump’s purported “America First” ideology — particularly following Trump’s admission that the war could continue for “far longer” than the initially planned four weeks.
The journalist followed up: “Even when it comes to Trump’s decisions on this?”
“Absolutely,” Burchett responded, noting that: “Nobody’s above reproach.”
But the lawmaker then added, “just don’t tell the president I said that,” before smiling, appearing to undercut his own claim that “Nobody’s above reproach.”
The exchange came as hundreds of civilians and at least six U.S. service members have been killed in the conflict that Trump launched on Saturday and which has since spread across the region amid Iranian retaliation.
