Fox News’ Harold Ford Jr. delivered a blunt reality check on the current state of the American economy during President Donald Trump’s second term on Tuesday’s edition of “The Five.”
“Here’s the reality,” Ford said. “Your plan is not working so far.”
When co-host Greg Gutfeld pushed back and pointed out that inflation appears to be stabilizing after hitting nearly 10% under former President Joe Biden, Ford hit back: “People can’t afford beef, they can’t afford bananas, they can’t afford insurance, they can’t afford health care.”
Ford, a former Democratic congressman from Tennessee, had already argued that “the most urgent issue in politics” is how it affects voters’ finances.
Trump and the GOP’s strategy of just trying to blame Biden is “nonsensical,” he said. Ford called out Trump’s price-hiking imposition of tariffs on products imported from overseas as a particular issue and warned that if the effects of the president’s so-called Big Beautiful Bill don’t start to pay off, then it could spell serious trouble for Republicans in the 2026 midterms.
After a back-and-forth with co-host Jesse Watters, Ford declared: “The plan that’s out there sucks. It’s not working.”
