After spending greater than 15 years in self-imposed exile, former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was free of detention on Sunday after serving six months in jail, CNN reported.
Prime Minister Thaksin was sentenced to eight years in jail for conflicts of curiosity, misuse of energy, and corruption throughout his tenure in workplace.
He was overthrown in a navy coup in 2006 and returned to Thailand in August.
He then filed a request for a royal pardon, which resulted in his jail sentence being lowered to at least one 12 months. The 74-year-old was considered one of 930 prisoners who acquired parole earlier this month attributable to their superior age or medical situations, reported CNN.
