Thousands of people marched in Minneapolis and across the U.S. on Saturday in protest of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Leah Greenberg, co-executive director of Indivisible and an organizer of the “ICE Out for Good Weekend of Action,” is one of the organizers of the protests and said she expected more than 1,000 demonstrations across the country throughout the weekend.
“This weekend, people all over are coming together not just to mourn the lives lost to ICE violence, but to confront a pattern of harm that has torn families apart and terrorized our communities,” Greenberg said in a statement.
The demonstrations are in response to this week’s killing of Renee Good by ICE agent Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis. Ross was seen on video shooting Good three times as she attempted to pull out of a residential street.
“It’s fine, dude, I’m not mad at you,” Good told Ross seconds before he shot her.
“Fucking bitch,” Ross could be heard saying in a video he recorded himself as he walked away from the deadly scene.
Protesters are also calling for agents to leave their cities and to stop snatching people off the streets.
Some in law enforcement have also had enough: Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal said Thursday that ICE agents are “wannabe law enforcement.”
Bilal warned that should an ICE agent commit a crime in Philadelphia, they will be identified and arrested.
“You don’t want this smoke, because we will bring it to you,” she warned.
