Emilie Martinsen-Kønigsfeldt, who presented a confident third collection for By Malene Birger, explained via Zoom that she’s forging a new way forward by creating a bridge between the minimalism that is the legacy of Maja Dixdotter and the decorative maximalism of the brand’s namesake founder whose motto was “more is more.” This middle way is represented in the collection by knits with tear-drop crystal embroidery that become sparkling fringe at the hem. These pieces capture the feeling of “quiet celebration” mentioned in the press notes. Though presented in sotto voce, the sensuality of the offering is unmissable. It’s created with use of subtle transparencies, in organza or knit.
Washed denim is sand-colored, and a smart ivory shorts suit is attractively cinched with a knit sash. This season’s slip dress is shown with a sweeping cape for a bit of drama, while pointelle knits feature a meandering pattern based on an old logo. To the neutral palette Martinsen-Kønigsfeldt added touches of aubergine and mint green. The two were combined on a spongy, cozy cardigan and miniskirt knit set.
