The Bahamas, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Saint Kitts & Nevis — what do all these have in common, despite obviously being some of the Caribbean’s most gorgeous destinations?
They’re all plural, meaning there are obviously multiple islands to choose from when booking an unforgettable beach vacation.
I guess you could say we’ve found the “deer” of the Caribbean, tripping us up all along.
My Hooked on Phonics flashback suggests this is why this unheard-of island has remained under the radar.

As such, we at Travel Off Path have uncovered what we deem is the Caribbean’s last undiscovered island to the masses, that’s been hiding in plain sight far too long.
When it comes to Grenada, even the most seasoned travelers may not realize this blip-on-the-map paradise is a multi-island destination.
Just a quick ferry ride away, locals have been keeping this hush-hush hideaway to themselves, but local experts at The Caribbean Journal have let the proverbial cat out of the bag, claiming it’s a 2026 must-visit.
Discover The Caribbean’s Secret Oasis

Does Carriacou ring a bell? For most travelers, it doesn’t. Leave that to the Salvation Army come Christmastime.
The reason it’s not on most travelers’ radars is that it’s not its own country — it’s a dependency of Grenada.
But it’s being hyped as a must-visit this year as a destination in itself — one that’s been overlooked by Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and aforementioned Bahamas far too long.
You see, more travelers are venturing deeper into the Caribbean. That’s why nations not even known for beaches have become some of the fastest-growing, like Guyana, for example.

Well, you will find unparalleled beaches here in a crowd-free postcard setting — that’s not the issue.
The issue is that many people believe Grenada to be a one-and-done getaway without digging just a little bit further into this beautiful island nation’s hidden gems.
But 2026 is the perfect time to venture out into the lesser-known, especially since it’s so easy to reach once you’re in Grenada.
According to Flight Connections, Grenada’s Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND) offers 4 nonstop routes to major U.S. airports:

- Miami (MIA)
- Charlotte (CLT)
- Atlanta (ATL)
- New York City (JFK)
Why Visit Carriacou Over Caribbean Icons?
What do Montego Bay, Punta Cana, and Nassau all have in common besides anchoring paradise islands with downright gorgeous shores?
Crowds at the worst times.

The truth is we’re all hardwired to vacation in sunny summers. The problem is we all have the same timeline, and there’s not enough shoreline or poolside loungers to accommodate everyone without elbowing a selfie stick every now and then.
That’s Exhibit A, why Carriacou is so appealing.
Find it before others have by booking a trip to Grenada via one of the 4 above airports and make plans to go beyond the main island and plan a ferry ride with their notoriously welcoming locals (and few tourists).
Imagine open shores and turquoise waters that are seemingly untouched by booger-wiping kiddos, lovey-dovey honeymooners, and ‘untz-untzing’ spring breakers.

Booking A Ferry To Carriacou
Unless you’re Diana Nyad, you’ll want to take a ferry to get here.
Carriacou lies 30 miles offshore from Grenada proper, and is a common destination for locals visiting family members, but not so much vacationers, making it one of the Caribbean’s most authentic island escapes.
Ferries depart from Grenada’s vibrant capital city St. George via 3 different operators:

The minimum journey is 2 hours, so be prepared to kick back for a while and enjoy sweeping views of the open sea.
According to Rome2Rio, ticket prices range from $30 – $40 across the board, easily justifiable for such a low-effort day-trip or idyllic mainstay.
Once here, you’ll feel like you found home away from home with roughly 6,000 low-key residents to embrace you, show you the ropes, and even whip up some highly underrated traditional cuisine.
Cornmeal cou-cou, anyone?
There are hotels here, but don’t expect a name-brand resort or familiar chains. In fact, this is a place where booking a vacation rental may be the way to go to truly feel like a local, something hard-pressed in the Caribbean.

There is another way to reach Carriacou, however, and it costs a pretty penny, considering it won’t save you tons of time.
You can fly with SVG Air for a 20-minute jump across islands.
