If you thought the only worthwhile Caribbean escapes were The Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica, we have news for you: there’s far more to this paradisal region than the same household names everyone defaults to.

Dotted across the Caribbean are countries that don’t always get treated like bona fide beach getaways, as if there’s nothing to do beyond wasting away seaside.

But one dual-island nation may take exception to that…

In fact, put St. Kitts & Nevis and St. Lucia on the back burner for a moment as trendy hotspots — there’s another destination that’s earned a seat at the table.

Most recently capturing headlines thanks to Robert De Niro of all people — yeah, we’re talking to you — one of the safest Caribbean escapes is making a name for itself not just because travelers can recharge without keeping their heads on a swivel, but because of its impressive luxury resort scene, 365 beaches, and a hefty increase in flights that makes what was once more of a cruise-stop destination much easier to reach.

Here are 4 reasons why Antigua & Barbuda is surging in popularity recently:

1) Nobu & More: The Ultimate Escape To Treat Yourself

Deep Bay on the island of Antigua

Many view lesser-known islands as cruise stopovers; a place to explore during a limited time.

But rather than say “been there, done that”, more travelers are embracing what this dynamic duo has to offer beyond its vibrant port surrounded by souvenir trinkets with “prices just for you, my friend”.

It’s a tall task to take on the household names mentioned above, but Antigua & Barbuda have done an impressive job building up an incredible resort scene where travelers want to kick back and stay a while of a zip-in, zip-out itinerary only to be back on their cruise ship’s lackluster accommodations.

While the islands currently boast some impressive resorts on the Antigua side, such as some of Travel Off Path favorites like:

An Ocean View of Antigua and Barbuda
  • Hammock Cove Antigua (a 5-star adults-only beachfront hotel with private villas)
  • The Verandah Antigua (an adults-only haven nestled on a shimmering blue-water cove)
  • St. James Club (arguably Antigua’s most family-friendly resort, set on a 100-acre retreat and recently updated)
  • Pineapple Beach Club Antigua (the island’s first-ever all-inclusive resort with easy access to Antigua’s top excursions)

But there’s a newbie fashionably late to the party.

Set for a ‘late 2026′ launch, Nobu Beach Inn Barbuda — believe it or not — was born from a long-held vision of Robert De Niro, co-founder of Nobu Hospitality, and is set to put Barbuda on the map.

Expect barefoot luxury across 400 acres and 2 miles of beachfront, with 36 spacious bedrooms spread across 17 villas, a beach club, oceanfront pool, indoor-outdoor spa, tennis and padel courts, world-renowned Nobu dining with an ocean-view grill, and, of course, a sushi bar impossible to disappoint.

2) One Of The World’s Safest Islands

Look, you may not think of safety much when planning a trip through the Caribbean, but there have been some shocking security alerts issued over the years, including The Bahamas, which is typically viewed as an extension of America being just a short hop from U.S. mainland.

Safety is an important aspect to research no matter where you go, but you don’t have to worry about Antigua & Barbuda.

Not only does the U.S. State Department classify this twin-island paradise with the lowest possible advisory of “Level 1: Exercise Normal Precaution“, fellow travelers like you and me back them up with a strong 85/100 safety score on our very own Safety Index:

3) 365 Beaches: A Different Beach Every Day

Well, I feel dumb…

Here I’ve been hyping up Ohrid, North Macedonia for its 365 churches, but being able to visit a new beach every day sounds way cooler — especially with me needing to be forgiven for my sins on a daily basis…

It’s true — Antigua & Barbuda boasts a different beach for every day of the year, should you stay that long.

According to its entry requirements, you’ll have to double-dip, though.

Americans are allowed to stay up to 180 days without obtaining a visa.

But enough with the boring bureaucracy, out of all 365 epic coastal gems to visit, travelers have narrowed down their absolute favorites.

The latest TripAdvisor rankings show these 5 pristine shores in Antigua:

  1. Dickenson Bay
  2. Valley Church Beach
  3. Ffryes Beach
  4. Darkwood Beach
  5. Half Moon Bay

But hold the phones…

That’s just the Antigua side…

Here are the same TripAdvisor rankings for Barbuda:

  1. Princess Diana Beach
  2. Pink Sand Beach
  3. 17-Mile Beach
  4. Coco Point
  5. Palmetto Point

Plus, if you think about it, having hundreds of options lessens the odds of encountering record swamps of sargassum this summer.

4) New Flights = New Hype

The reason why so many people opt for a cruise in the Caribbean is that you get to check off so many amazing places that lack flights.

The region is notorious for small airports with minimal connections, but Antigua & Barbuda has been growing for fellow Caribbean nations, most notably American and Canadian sun-seekers.

Currently, Flight Connections shows 5 valid U.S. routes to St. John’s, Antigua (ANU):

  • Atlanta (ATL)
  • Miami (MIA)
  • Charlotte (CLT)
  • Newark (EWR)
  • New York (JFK)

Additionally, WestJet is reviving its Wednesday Toronto–Antigua flight for July and August, adding to its existing Sunday service from Toronto (TOR).
