Johannesburg:

At the least 20 workers of mining big De Beers have been killed in a street accident in South Africa, native officers stated Sunday.

The bus concerned was ferrying workers from the Venetia mine, one of many greatest diamond mines within the nation, stated a transport official in Limpopo province, within the north of the nation.

“The bus got here into collision with a lorry,” stated Vongani Chauke.

Chauke informed AFP the accident occurred at round 1600 GMT, some 25 kilometres (15 miles) from the mine, on the village of Musian on the border with Zimbabwe.

The reason for the accident has not been established.

South Africa has some of the developed street networks on the continent, but in addition has one of many worst street security data.

The Venetia mine, which lies close to the borders with Botswana and Zimbabwe, has been run by the De Beers group for greater than 30 years.

It accounts for extra thatn 40 p.c of the nation’s annual diamond manufacturing, using greater than 4,300 workers together with many native folks.
